On family
In General
Gold is a person who takes companionship seriously. He strongly desires to keep his friends close and will do anything to keep them close and protect them, even if it means the cost of his own life. That's right; despite Gold's own zeal for life, he'd gladly throw it away if it meant being able to ensure his friends would be able to stay safe, as evidenced by his actions at the end of his premiere arc. Granted, killing Gold is another matter entirely and is not easy to do, if not downright impossible. Messing with Gold's friends means messing with Gold, and you do not want to mess with a Determinator.
Red
Red is the person whom Gold most respects as a trainer. He's strong yet kind, caring for his Pokemon as deeply as Gold himself does. After the events of GSC, Gold and Red spent a lot of time together, training and bonding, and now, thanks to Red, Gold is a highly competent trainer and battler. During the months they spent on Mt. Silver, Gold learned a lot about Red and the other Kanto dex holders, and through that, developed and mastered a number of strategies to executed in tandem. In a sense, Red is Gold's bro, and they can count on each other and work together effectively.
Blue
At first, Blue was DAT ASS. She was a girl with a hot bod and little else to him. But the time he'd spent with Silver, learning about him and thus, about Blue, helped to change his view of her. His maturation helped too. She's still that girl with the hot bod, but hey, he respects her now, seeing her also in a sort of older sister figure-type way, and so he looks up to her just like he does to Red. He may even look up her skirt if he feels so inclined..
Green
Gold... doesn't really like Green. He respects him as a fellow fire-type starter user and that he's a gym leader, and will tolerate his presence, but his serious, no-nonsense attitude aggravates Gold. The first time he met his senior, the guy tried to arrest Silver, and would have succeeded if not for Gold's unexpected intervention. His view of Green may change as things progress.
Yellow
Gold thinks Yellow's an incredibly sweet girl. Really, how can you hate her? She's adorable and kind and caring and he cares about her and he just wants her to be happy, like all her friends do. He knows that he can count on her to provide support to him and the other Dex Holders no matter the situation. He feels she's almost too nice for her own good sometimes, with a naivete that can prove to be her downfall. Despite that, he'll stand by her side and protect her through whatever happens, just like he would all his seniors.
Ruby
Ruby is one of Gold's juniors, and so he sees himself as a rolemodel to the boy. Unfortunately, he's realized he's got a LOT of work to do, because Ruby is flamboyent and unmanly and pretty much the opposite of everything Gold stands for. He freaks out at getting dirty, and doesn't even take battles seriously. He's like a housewife, really. He's resolved himself, though. Mister, he'll make a man out of you yet, just you wait.
Sapphire
Sapphire is quite possibly one of the weirdest chicks Gold has ever met. She's a girl, but she doesn't act like one. She's really quite tomboyish, really quite similar to himself. She's much more like a boy than Ruby, who is much more girly. He's convinced these two must have had some encounter in the past that caused them to change outlooks or personalities with each other or something.
Emerald
Gold treats himself as a mentor to the young Emerald, hoping to set him on the correct (read: mischief-filled) path. He sees a lot of himself in the boy, sharing in their mischief-loving, fun-having ways, just with... added baggage. He's like how Gold would have envisioned himself to be if he had a slightly traumatic past. There's not much there between them, but he sees great things in the kid, and will continue to serve as a senior for Emerald much like Red does for him.
On Silver and Crys
Silver
Gold's relationship is... complicated. Gold and Silver consider each other their best friends, but good luck getting them to admit it openly, especially to each other. True to Standard Pokemon Special Law, Silver is the companion and rival who proves to be Gold's greatest ally, standing by him through the toughest tribulations, as well as the one who facilitates the greatest growth. Through Gold, Silver learned to open up to and trust others, while conversely, Gold learned to take his duties more seriously. Though on the surface, they may argue, bicker, and fight with each other, that's just the nature of their relationship. Deeper than that, Gold values Silver above all else as his best friend and closest companion, and will do anything to help him.
Crystal
Gold's relationship with Crystal is... equally complicated. The relationship between Gold and Crys is the embodiment of the saying "Opposites Attract". The flirty, mischievous Gold is the counterpart to the serious, driven Crystal, and they complement one another well. Gold's joking around isn't well-received by Crystal, who demands he be more serious about things. Meanwhile, Crystal's serious behavior and demands for him to stop joking around are quickly dismissed, Gold saying she should learn to lighten up. But, beyond their bickering lies a much closer relationship. To each of them, the other is immensely important, and through their dismissing of each other's behaviors, they continue to try harder and harder to get one another to accept them.
- Gold is an only child.
- Gold lives with his mother in New Bark Town
- At one point, she was once a very successful trainer, having caught a number of pokemon and making a nice sum of money. She traveled across the Kanto-Johto region and gained much experience, as well as a few... other things.
- When she became pregnant with Gold, she decided to retire as a trainer, wanting to provide her son with a good childhood and a loving family
- Her time as a trainer provided her with enough money to buy a large home in New Bark and live comfortably. The pokemon she captured were kept in the house as pets, perhaps even family for Gold.
- Gold's father is AWOL, having disappeared before he was even born. Because of this, his mother resolved to be the best mother she could be for him, even though she was all he had, and vice versa.
- As noted, Gold grew up with just his mom. There was no father involved in any stage of his childhood, nor was there a father-like figure such as an uncle or even a respected male in the town.
- Using the money Gold's mom had earned, Gold was able to grow up comfortably in a nice, large home, filled with Pokemon, and he was able to have almost anything his heart desired.
- ...Thankfully, Gold wasn't a terribly needy child. He didn't need many material things aside from video games, preferring to play outside with his Pokemon. Eventually, he takes up billiards, skateboarding, and gambling, all inspired by things he saw...
- ...On TV. Gold likes TV and the radio. He grew up watching all sorts of things, and it's through TV that he learned most of what he knows. You could practically say the TV raised him. That includes his lecherous behavior. More on that later.
- As said, Gold had no older male figure to look up to. He played with boys his own age, sometimes ones he met at the playground, but often times due to playdates his mother would set up with other mothers. It was rare he ever met someone's father.
- Due to this, his only source for how males would act around others... was TV. Yeeeeaaaaah, guys on TV suck. Thinking about women 24/7... At least he gained some influences in his life later on to help set him straight.
