[As the recording kicks on, the voice on the other end seems to lack its usual energy, sounding considerably more tired and strained. He doesn't sound like his usual self, at least.]

Hard to believe it's just the three of us now... Who knows how long that'll last...

[He then perks up a bit, though anyone who knows him well enough or can tell these kinds of things would be able to notice it's forced.]

Man... What a couple of crazy weeks, huh? I've never seen anything happen like that here before! But... Is it just me, or did some of that stuff seem kinda familiar?

...Hey, anybody in this village know anything about electricity? I got a project for you involvin' the Rec Center.

Yeah. [A pause. Did that not make sense?] ...A mix of magic and technology.

Whoa... Combinin' magic and technology? I didn't know they could actually do somethin' like that!

If you come from a world where magic doesn't really exist, or if your technology isn't rather advanced, I can see why you wouldn't have known.

But, come on, are you really surprised?

Surprised? Nah, not at all. Just didn't expect it, that's all! In most fantasy settings, magic and technology almost never blend together, so you'd never expect to see it work out in the real world.

I don't see why. Magic can support mechanical operations as a replacement for other things -- like spinning a fan that will operate a conveyor belt or work a grinder -- if it's planned correctly. It's just usually more of a hassle setting something like that up when there are natural means.

--Well, Heraldry can, at least. Other magic may not be as flexible.

Hey, don't ask me. There's just always some sort of conflict between magic and technology.

Anyway, if you say you can do it, then meet me there, we'll figure it out from there.

Sure. It's on the west side, right? I haven't actually visited yet.

Yeah, that's right. I'll see you there, then.

[And off to the Rec Center he goes. He's got a messenger bag with him, carrying one of his tomes and an electrical converter or two.

He'll look for Gold as he comes closer to the building.]

[Gold himself had arrived at the building a short while before, and had decided to check it over. So now that Leon's arrived, he steps out the door, and greets him, waving him over.]

[He heads over once he spots Gold, looking around.] Not much traffic today?

Nope... Like a ghost town around here.

Aren't you supposed to advertise places like this to avoid that? [Not that he's expecting much from a dark little building when every other place in the village has electricity.]

This place ain't much to write home about right now. Sure, it looks nice, but...

I guess so. [He gives the room a longer look.] Is there anywhere specific you wanted something set up?

Well, for now, besides setting this place up with lights, I'm aimin' to get that thing there workin'. [He points at the air hockey table sitting next to the wall.]

After that, we gotta get this place set up with some TVs and the like. You know, really make it a place can come and chill! So gettin' some electrical outlets would be key.

[That ... must've been one of the game things Haruki had mentioned. It's not really anything like what he'd seen over on Energy Nede, but oh well.] I only brought one lightbulb with me for now, so we can use that table for testing -- if you don't mind. [He heads on over there to inspect it better.] It has an electric plug, right?

[He reaches underneath the table and pulls out a long, three-pronged plug.]

Cool. So this should work...

[He opens up his bag, pulling out what looks like a metal box that's small enough to hold (uncomfortably) in one hand. He puts it on the table for now, pulling out his large tome.

What follows next doesn't initially look like much. He places a hand onto his tome, tracing the electricity symbol he knows pretty much by heart now. Lightning. Continuance. Amplification. When he places his hand onto the wall, he "draws" the symbol with his fingers before placing his palm firmly on the surface. A glowing crest seems to grow out from his hand, spreading on the wall in a circular pattern.

It doesn't take any longer than a minute.]

[Gold watches with a mixture of surprise, shock, and wonder. When the boy had said it was a mixture of magic and technology... He never imagined anything like this could be possible!

Once it fades...] So... what now?

Next, I install the converter. [Which means putting his tome back into his bag and picking up the metal box. Leon pushes the back of the box against the symbol, quirking his lips into a slight frown when it doesn't spark right away. (He'd thought he'd figured out the sweet spot on this thing already.) So he moves the box around a little, nodding when there's the fzzt of the device activating.

Then he pulls his hand away -- the electrical converter stays affixed to the symbol.] Okay. You can plug that table in now.

[He stares at the box for a moment in pure wonderment. Is that really all it took?

...Regardless, he shakes it off and inserts the plug into the box.]

[He watches the lights on the table blink on as Gold inserts the plug, nodding in approval. This wasn't the first time he'd used the converter for something other than lights, but it was always nice when it worked while other people were watching.]

So, a few things to keep in mind. I don't have a lot of these converters; it's not like we have a lot of wiring and cable lying around in the stores. And if something happens to the symbol -- if the wall cracks or otherwise gets damaged -- the converter won't work anymore. [It was a little primitive in that way.]

[He nods, taking in what Leon's saying about all this.] ...So, we'll have to take extra-special care of this equipment, in other words. So how much power can these things handle?
