So you took another guy's Pokémon and trained it, it stopped listenin' to you when it got stronger, and then you sent it away to train somewhere away from you. [You are not helping your case here, Ash.]

I didn't take him Charmander wanted t' come with me! Same with Cynadquil, Chimchar, and Tepig!

Well Charizard wanted t' stay there and train! But I told 'im that I would never abandon him like his old trainer.

But you weren't always pals! That's why I want to know the story!

Well he listened t' me when he was a Charmander! I guess it's 'cause his personality changed when he evolved so he didn't want t' listen to me anymore.

[ Okay not exactly but it's what Cilan said when he was telling the story to them and he's sticking with it ]

But I didn't want t' give up on Charmeleon so I kept battlin' with him and then he evolved into Charizard. Then he listened t' me even less. But I still used Charizard and we [ read: Just Charizard ] kept winning battle after battle. But when we got t' the Pokemon League he didn't listen at all. It was like he didn't have any ambition.

Don'tcha think you should've worked on makin' Charizard listen to you instead of usin' it so recklessly? What if someone got hurt because of it? [Be glad you're not the Ash that starred in Electric Tale of Pikachu, Ash. That Charizard mauled things.]

I was tryin' to make 'im listen to me by battlin' with him. It wasn't until after his first ever loss that he started t' listen to me again.

So what happened, then? [Wasn't this thread about mistletoe?]

After he started t' listen to me? We kept winning more battles! Until we got to Charific Valley that is. He lost against one of the Charizards there and after beating Team Rocket I gave 'im the choice to stay there and train if he wanted t'. But he came back for the Johto League and several other times since then!

So, Charizard. Is it true Ashy-boy here left you behind at this "Charred Valley" or whatever?

[ Hmmm well... he wouldn't put it quite like that but he did stay behind at the Valley yes. So he nods. ]
